Quality assurance and improvement program (QAIP)
How internal audit checks and improves the quality of its own work.
A QAIP covers ongoing monitoring (supervision, reviews and metrics), periodic self-assessments, and an external quality assessment at least once every five years by a qualified, independent assessor from outside the organisation. Results are reported to the board.
On the exam
Remember the five-year minimum for external assessments, and that the assessor must be independent of the organisation.
